There are also several public bus stops in the neighborhood.
Great Hills was developed in the 1970s and homes continued to be built into the 2000s. The neighborhood grew tremendously over the three decades. The neighborhood has a residential atmosphere but is conveniently close to local highways, shopping, dining, and entertainment.
The Arboretum, a well-known outdoor shopping center, is next to the neighborhood and includes many retail stores, supermarkets, and chain restaurants. There are two movie theaters, a bookstore, and several cafes in the Arboretum.
The neighborhood has plenty to offer in the way of outdoor recreation. The Great Hills Country Club has facilities for swimming, tennis, and golf, as well as a clubhouse. Great Hills Park in the neighborhood has a hiking trail, playscape, and picnic tables. Nearby Bull Creek Park offers swimming, hiking, and many open green spaces.
Residents who work in the high-tech area of north Austin have a short commute. Those who work downtown can get on the highways directly from the neighborhood.
